Billy Reid insists his Hamilton side will not settle for draws on the road as they look to build on their flying start to the SPL at Inverness. The First Division champions recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Dundee United to put them top of the table after the first round of SPL fixtures.
Accies put everything into the Monday night game and the manager admitted he had some tired players in the dressing room following the New Douglas Park encounter.
But Reid is not content to rest on his laurels and play for a point against an Inverness side who they knocked off the summit.
"We put a lot into the game, it was a high-energy game, both teams play that way," Reid said.
"But our fitness levels are really good, as we showed on Monday.
"The boys are full of enthusiasm and have points to prove.
"One thing I can guarantee is that there will be no lack of trying on our part this season.
"And we are not going out to play for a point. We will try to win, as we will do in every game this season."
The Hamilton boss reminded his players they were still favourites for relegation following Monday's win but he hopes the impressive result can give them the confidence boost to embark on a successful debut season in the SPL.
"It's always nice, whatever league you are in, to get off to a good start," he said.
"You can work really hard in pre-season and come to your opening game and it doesn't go right. Fortunately we did the right things against United.
"A lot of people said United didn't play well but I think a lot of that was down to the way we played.
"We matched them in every department, especially in the middle of the park."
Reid was familiar with United, having met them on cup duty last season and he knows Inverness well too.
Caley Thistle pipped his Clyde team to promotion on the final day of the 2003-04 season and Inverness players such as Grant Munro, Roy McBain and David Proctor remain have remained at the club, who won at Aberdeen last weekend.
"We have faced Inverness quite a few times over the years," Reid added.
"It's amazing to think that six or seven of those guys are still playing there.
"The backbone of the team have been playing for years so we know what they are all about.
"I know they got a fantastic result on the road on Saturday but they get the majority of their points at home, so we know it's a tough place to go."
