Thatcher to debut for Tractor Boys

Fri 15 Aug, 02:15 PM

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton could hand debuts to new arrivals Ivan Campo and Ben Thatcher in Saturday's Championship tie away to Burnley. Both arrived on free transfers this week after spells training with the club and will travel with Magilton's squad. Thatcher looks certain to displace youngster Pim Balkestein at left-back but Campo is currently short of match fitness and is more likely to be on the bench.

Danny Haynes started last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Preston in the wide right role he took up for most of last season but was given a chance up front in the midweek Carling Cup win over Leyton Orient. And his two goals and man-of-the-match performance has put pressure on Magilton to start Haynes alongside Kevin Lisbie at Turf Moor.

Last season's player of the year and Stoke target Jon Walters is also set to start after he returned in midweek, while David Norris could be a surprise traveller to Lancashire.

Norris made a comeback from an ankle injury ahead of schedule as a substitute against Orient and could be involved.

New skipper Gareth McAuley, Richard Wright, Veliche Shumulikoski and Tommy Smith will all hope for a recall after being rested in midweek.
