The Italy hit-man, currently injured, slipped to fourth in the pecking order after the club signed Mario Gomez and Ivica Olic in the summer.

Toni, 32, was linked with moves to Tottenham and West Ham but insists he will fight for his place.

"I know that I am not (Van Gaal's) ideal striker, but the coach could change his mind," Toni told local TV. "I am convinced I have the quality."

The former Fiorentina and Palermo striker will even turn out for the club's amateur reserve team in a bid to get match fit, so long as he is later given a chance to impress for the seniors.

"I really want to play," Toni added. "I am ready for the challenge, but if I had to play the full year under (reserves boss) Mehmet Scholl, then that would be humbling.

"I want to give everything for Bayern. I want to keep scoring goals here and I think I am capable of that."
