The 27-year-old Argentina defender, who scored the goal which took the Magpies back to the top of the Championship at Cardiff on Sunday, was linked with a move away from St James' Park throughout the summer in the wake of relegation.

However, while many of the club's bigger earners did depart, the £10 million man remains on Tyneside and is determined to answer his critics.

He told the club website: "A lot of things were written in the newspapers about me over the summer saying I wanted to leave the club, but that was not true at all.

"I am happy here and happy to help the club get back into the Premier League, so because of that, it was a great feeling to see my goal go in.

"It was good to turn around and see the fans celebrating my goal. I thank them for sticking by us. They have been excellent with me and the team."

  8. Blackpool will really be up for proving a point here, so Newcastle are going to need to put in a strong performance again. We need to start strong and try too dampen down the atmosphere among the home supporters. I think that this will be a very different test to Cardiff. W.B.A, and Crystal Palace et al. This could be more like an FA Cup tie. We need to get on top as quickly as possible, and take the wind out of the Blackpool teams sails.

I hope we don't miss Alan Smith to much. It's time for Nicky Butt too make up for some poor shows last season. 2 nil to the Toon............

  9. Aye Collocini is proving some of his critics wrong and long may it continue. There appears to be total harmony in the dressing room with a hard work ethic instilled in them all. The prima donnas have gone .Howay the lads

  11. Agree Dave, it`s injuries that will hurt the Toon more than anything else. That`s a good response from Coloccini. I fancy 1-0 to the Toon on Wednesday night.

  13. Had me doubts a Coloccini but hes come back from a long travel after international duty and got stuck in and scored a goal, unlike Rednap making excuses about players in the premiership being tired after the international break what a joke this lads made of that article.
Although hes not been my favorite playler you dont hear him moan or make excuses lets hope hes on the up with the toon would like to see him do well hopfully the other Argentinian lad will be pulling on his spidermans mask at Blackpool come on lads keep pulling together and watch the injuries and maybe just maybe we will go into Christmass full of hope.
