Fabricio Coloccini has committed himself to Newcastle's drive for an instant return to the Barclays Premier League.
The 27-year-old Argentina defender, who scored the goal which took the Magpies back to the top of the Coca-Cola Championship at Cardiff on Sunday, was linked with a move away from St James' Park throughout the summer in the wake of relegation.
However, while many of the club's bigger earners did depart, the £10million man remains on Tyneside and is determined to answer his critics.
He told the club`s official website: "A lot of things were written in the newspapers about me over the summer saying I wanted to leave the club, but that was not true at all.
"I am happy here and happy to help the club get back into the Premier League, so because of that, it was a great feeling to see my goal go in.
"It was good to turn around and see the fans celebrating my goal. I thank them for sticking by us. They have been excellent with me and the team."

if argentina picks him for their squad well in my estimation he must be good!
lets face it 5 different managers last season wil not have helped anyone
as m states hughton just might have that little touch, arm around the shoulder, words of wisdom & enthusiasm to bring out the best in him
all of the great manger do this on a consistant basis
He was a good player by reputation and when he first arrived. Is it possible that Hughton has man management skills that have given him back his confidence and a year in the champoinship will make he and Steve taylor a class defensive wall ready for promotion.
looks a good player - in the championship
