Di Matteo: Carson can make World Cup

West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson can still gatecrash England's World Cup party, according to head coach Roberto Di Matteo.

The Baggies keeper has three caps for his country but has not featured in Fabio Capello's plans since November last year, when a mix-up with John Terry gifted Germany an equaliser in a 2-1 friendly triumph in Berlin.

His substitute appearance at the Olympic Stadium was the first time he had pulled on an England shirt since his fateful competitive debut against Croatia at Wembley.

But despite now plying his trade outside the top flight, Di Matteo is backing Carson to have every chance of travelling to South Africa should he continue his impressive form.

Di Matteo told the club's official website: "I think he might still have a chance to get into the World Cup squad.

"He's probably a little bit out of the limelight. But if we have a good season and he has a good season, he's got the experience because he's played there before and for the World Cup that could be important."

  1. Listen I love Carson and think he was a great signing for the Albion. I think we all concentrate on his short-comings rather than the fact we have signed someone who has played for England. I don't know who we expected to get instead but I think we have done pretty well signing him and keeping him. HOWEVER, if RDM seriously thinks that he is gonna go to the world cup he is crazy, unless their is a massive injury problem the keepers will be: -

    1: James
    2: Green
    3: Foster
    4: Kirkland
    5: Robinson
    6: J Hart
    7: Carson

The other 6 all play premiership football so therefore will be watched on a regular basis. I actually would rate Carson as 3rd in that list behind Green and Foster but i'm not Fabio!
