Injury worries for Arsenal

Arsenal must cope without goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, striker Robin van Persie and midfielder Denilson in Wednesday's Champions League opener against Standard Liege.

Almunia has a chest infection, and with reserve goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski also unavailable due to a knee injury Arsenal must choose between Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny.

Van Persie has a knee injury and Denilson a back problem, however Eduardo is available after UEFA overturned his two-match ban for diving.

Arsenal have also not listed England forward Theo Walcott in their squad, with Russian midfielder Andrey Arshavin (groin), defender Johan Djourou (knee) and winger Samir Nasri (broken leg) also absent.

  1. I am not worried by this injury news, A part from­ maybe­ Van Persie because i think we are short of fire­ power­ upfront. With Bendtner and Eduardo only­ availabe­ whereas for Mr Almunia i know many arsenal­ fans may­ disagree with me, But so far I am not happy­ with him­ only one clean sheet and that was against­ Celtic at­ Parkhead. Whereas for Denilson we got Song,­ Fabregas,­ Diaby and young Ramsey who I am a big fan.­ As far as­ who Wenger should start in Goal well simply­ start­ Mannone last season on the last day, against­ Stoke city­ he did good although he conceded one goal­ which was a­ penatly. Plus i think Arsenal still will­ have a lot for­ Standard Liege

  4. Well this is a blow to Arsenal, basically they should­ win the Wednesday matches but arsene has to learn from­ situations like this to put his house in order, there­ was nothing wrong signing a goalkeeper when the window­ was open, but lets see if there will be any signing in­ January.

I dont want to hear anyone from Arsenal moan about­ injuries this season, they had the chance to buy in the­ summer to strenghthen and improve the squad and they­ didn't do it so as far as i'm cocerned it's­ on the clubs head now what we do this season.I'm a­ devoted Arsenal supporter but i am so frustrated at the­ lack of signings we are going backwards not forwards.

  12. no sweat. Rosicky and Eduardo will cover for both RvP­ and Arshavin.
    Almunia has been a basket this season,­ so Vito Manone will certainly be an improvement

  16. not good news at all ..... Arsenal should still win­ though they have a good enough squad to beat­ Wednesday's opponents and win on Saturday against­ Wigan
