Preston boss Alan Irvine believes Sean St Ledger should set his sights higher than Middlesbrough.
The Republic of Ireland international defender's proposed loan move to the Riverside Stadium was put on hold due to a knee injury and he could now line up for North End against Scunthorpe on Tuesday night.
Irvine is pleased to have St Ledger at his disposal for now, and feels the player should bide his time until a Premier League opportunity comes his way.
"If I was in Sean's position, I'd probably wait, but I can't speak for someone else," Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"I would not be rushing to leave a club like Preston to go to another Championship club.
"For me, the next step for any of our best players is the Premier League, either with us or away from us."

KHT 20 hear hear!
Players need to seize every opportunity and staying with Preston is not a viable option for a player with ambition. Boro are a premier team of 11 consecutive years standing and will provide a good springboard for a player like St.Ledger to improve and progress even further. Irvine should keep his opinions to himself about other clubs.
