Brazilian midfielder Lucas believes he is winning over Liverpool fans after being given a tough time by sections of the Anfield crowd last season.
The 22-year-old's form dipped during the Reds' prolonged spell of poor home form which eventually cost them the title. However, he has been ever-present this term and is expected to anchor midfield again when Liverpool open their Champions League group phase campaign with a home clash with Hungarian champions Debrecen.
"Nobody likes to be criticised, but such things happen in football. In many ways it has been a good experience for me because I am strong physically and mentally now," said Lucas.
"I can play with more relaxation and patience. I can be calmer because I know the fans are supporting me more.
"If (manager) Rafa (Benitez) had wanted me to leave, he would have said so. But he always said he had confidence in my football and I was improving.
"I am now a better player than when I arrived. I did some physical work in the summer to put on some kilos to help me play in the Premier League, and that has helped me a lot.
"I am trying to improve all the time, I am feeling more confident and I will be able to maintain this level."

lucas is showing alot of confidence on and off the pitch.
good for him
half the chat lad..more the puttin in good shifts.... 3 outa 10 so far you got a long long way to go....
Lucas played well against Burnley, and if the brazillian coach have chosen him in his squad instead of man utd's Anderson and Arsenal's Denilson, then he's fine by me!
he always thinks he has way more time on the ball than he actually does, needs to put on another stone as well and toughen up, we will see how he has progressed my january
NO 'SKILL' LUCAS BUT MASTERS OF THE SIDEWARD & BACKWARD PASSES!!!...LOL!!..FACTH!!...SPIT!!..
i will support liverpool....
go on liverpool ....
whatever you do i will support ...
i love liverpool so much...
i'm the real fans liverpool...
He's certainly improving. Players mature / develop at different rates. Mind you I rate the young lad Plessis....where has he gone?? Stick with him though.
He's always had talent and ability just lacked experience and done dumb things, often due to his slight frame. I have been a big critque but, this season he seems to be getting better and bettter. I hope for him and the club he continues to improve.
well "onefinfoley" don't think he is the worst ever...josemi has to be at the top...well guys who is the worst ever in lfc shirt...???el hadji diouf should be on the list...what do you say
People who have any understanding of football will see the potential in Lucas. All those who think they're cleverer than Rafa should go apply for his job. Apart from his tackling, he is an excellent player, and only 22. If Liverpool fans want the best for their team, they should support him and the manager's decision to select him, screwing up his confidence definitely won't make him a better player
i dont rate him either i really dont know why raffa does either unless no one else are willing to pay a decent price for him.
worst reds player i can remember....and that includes some donkeys we've fielded over the years
What love i still think he is the week link
Keep it up and disprove some of us especially me.I like it that way. However its early to start mouthing.Keep cool and let your kool be going. We will talk on your behalf.
