Birmingham striker Kevin Phillips has resigned himself to playing a bit-part role this season.
The 36-year-old has started just once - against Stoke - and had a total of 92 minutes of playing time but he accepts he is behind the likes of summer signing Christian Benitez, James McFadden.
"It has gone the way I thought it would," said Phillips. "I have started one game and been on the bench for the rest. It is always frustrating to be sitting on the bench but I knew that was going to happen this year."
Phillips, who played for the reserves in their 1-1 draw against Fulham on Monday night, added: "I can't see it changing from now until the end of the season. It's up to me that when I get my chance I try to help the team win games.
"That is why the manager has put me on the bench, to come on to make and impact and score late goals," added the striker.
"If I do come on then I will try be trying my hardest."
