Stanley away game moved

Accrington have brought forward this month's home clash against Crewe by a day in another attempt to help raise much-needed funds for the cash-strapped club.

The original date for the encounter was the afternoon of Saturday September 26 but the match will now be played on Friday September 25, kick-off 7.45pm.

It comes after the success of last Friday's 2-1 win over Darlington at the Crown Ground, which was also moved forward 24 hours to attract a bigger gate and help raise crucial funds for the club's survival. It also allowed other events to be held over the weekend in an attempt to bring in more money.

Stanley have so far raised around £75,000 of the £308,000 tax bill they need to find within the next seven weeks or they face closure.

Chief executive Rob Heys said: "Hopefully people will understand the reasons for the move, it isn't something that we are looking to make a regular occurrence however it keeps the weekend free for fundraising activities and I am sure that it will also have an impact on the gate."
