Tom Cleverley's early strike was enough to earn Watford a 1-0 victory and increase the pressure on Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock.
Argyle went into the game on the back of their worst start to a season in 15 years, and although they threw everything at the visitors following the goal, a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing ensured they slipped to a fifth straight defeat.
Sturrock made four changes to the side beaten by West Brom at the weekend, with Chris Clark, Cillian Sheridan, Krisztian Timar and David McNamee coming in.
The struggling Pilgrims found themselves a goal down after just four minutes.
Don Cowie's corner found its way back to him and he picked out Cleverley who swept the ball home from six yards via Gary Sawyer's outstretched boot for his third goal of the campaign.

mk dons have got a great midfielder just what argyle need, NAME? jason somebody
Have faith Pilgrims. Paul Sturrock will rally the troops and guide you safely through the season. Don't push the panic button yet. Green Army!!!!!
Goin Newcastle at the weekend be a long old poke just to see us lose again, big Dave is coming.
Its definitely a shaky start, but I am not so sure that thyings are going to change very quickly. I cant see Paul Sturrock lasting much longer, but will getting rid of him solve the problem? Despite the chairmans aspirations, a cash injection is badly needed. This squad is simply not good enough to survive in the Championship
Things will change, just a shaky start.
Surprise Surprise. Im going Newcastle at the weekend but can't see us winning that one. I can't see Sturrock staying much longer!
