Wednesday beaten by brilliant Boro

Middlesbrough maintained their early-season momentum with an accomplished 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Boro needed an own goal from Darren Purse to cancel out home striker Luke Varney's stunning early opener, before second-half goals from Frenchman Jeremie Aliadiere and roving winger Adam Johnson lifted Gareth Southgate's side into the top two.

Once Aliadiere had fired his third goal in two matches to give Southgate's side the lead early in the second half there seemed little doubt as to the outcome.

And Johnson underlined the visitors' extra class with a brilliant 84th-minute finish to secure Boro's fifth league win from seven matches.

The Owls' second defeat and first at home this season has halted their early promise, but manager Brian Laws will take solace from the fact his side will not face many better than Boro for the rest of the campaign.

  1. Aliadiere 3 in 2 !! what is going on?? maybe someone might actually bid for him Jan!! ..and this loan thing with St Ledger what happens if Boro just keep him till Jan when Pog and Rig are fit then send him back!!..or have I let the cat out of the bag..ace..maybe Boro can get the best player from all their rivals 'on loan' with no intention of buying them..or even playing them!!..but I suppose we dont need to!! please please please Lamb if you are reading nip round Johnno's house in the limo NOW!!! O.K!! with your cheque book.. etc and tell him to fill in the blanks with whatever he wants and SIGN him up!!...getting rid of all that expensive , moaning, self-centered unconcerned dead wood over the summer was good SENSE especially financially so give say 5mill to Johnson ..take it round in cash and count it out in front of his Dad..and SIGN HIM UP ..

  2. Boro on top form, and our defence stil does not look as solid as last season.. I think it is midfield not helping in the right areas on the pitch.
Maybe the Chairman will realise now, you need a few quaity players in a team to be at the top..
