Arsene Wenger believes Emmanuel Adebayor will one day look back and realise just what he owes to Arsenal Football Club.
The Football Association have charged the Manchester City striker with violent conduct after he struck former team-mate Robin van Persie in the face with his boot, as well as for misconduct after he ran the length of the field to celebrate in front of the visiting Arsenal fans following his goal in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Gunners..
"My thought is that Emmanuel Adebayor deserves to be charged for what he did," said Wenger.
"But I was surprised that there was such animosity in his attitude towards Arsenal because in a few years he will realise that Arsenal has been great for him.
"That is why I was deeply surprised and shocked."
The Gunners boss continued: "Only he can say if he will regret leaving.
"All I can say is that is life and professional football players move on.
"In life, the goal is to be objective enough in seeing who helped you and who didn't help you, who had a positive influence on you or not.
"You can sometimes be disappointed in the short term. But still I believe that when you take distance with the events, you always get to the right judgement.
"I think the longer distance will make Adebayor realise that Arsenal was a very positive influence in his life."

Hey what happened to the player that broke Eduardo's Ankle?
What happened to the player that tackled Luka Mudric of Spurs
What happened to Paul Scholes on all the players he has tackled
All this talk about Adebayor is becoming a very nonsense issue and a disgrace by the FA, all Arsenal fans, Arse Wenger.
When Arsenal used to play in their monkey stadium(Highbury) they were a humble side now with liitle success they are so arrogant. Wenger go jump into the deepest end of the Ocean and take all your dumb players and fans with you
Lets face it all, Until RACISM is removed from Football and sports, things will never change, decisions will always be biased and unfair.
get a life 17.... you retrogressive racist. you are not good enough to even post you stupid comments on the net. who tells you that Adebayor is ambassador for the the third world countries?
Third class mentality from Adebayor from third world country. That the facts!
ARSENE WENGER, you f***kup thank u,yes at times you supprted all your players with your blindness, backed them to the hilt.NOW your inactivity in the tranfer market is coming to bite you in the @#$%. WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF IN BIG NAME PLAYERS ARSENE, at least an addition of 3 or 4 experienced 26 yrs old players with champion league experience or big games performers would have helped bring the youth thru the hard times&mark my words its happening already. You lost two big players in toure @ade and didnt replace them, whilst milan lost KAKA (with the money got 5 players&there finance is not as good as ours)FACT.also LYON lost bezema(with the money got 4players )including a big striker banging in the goals who cost 22mil from porto .FRENCH football &stadiums& tv rights dont compare to the premiership.FACT,Yes they are 7 times french champions until last season.BIG teams have to build a nuclus of players to face the changing climate ,its no good bying all the young players in the world and they dont develop as foreseen as teens.MOVE THEM ON ARSENE WENGER,(ie nic bendaar, abou diaby, senderos, etc)yes guys like gibbs, wiltshire, ramsey, and maybe djoureu need to play more as gibbs showed during cliches absence that he can handle himself ,this season where is he arsene????????.you want to wait until cliche gets an injury b4 giving him a start??
mother f**ker thi black dog..
came we go and kill this stupid dog..
He is only player that money matter rather then footbal.
adnkle (comment #4), it shall be well with your soul. I have said it times without number that if a player is not good on his own, no manager or team will ask for his service. Wenger should know better unless he wants a credit for what you cant give to person. If thats the case, according to Wenger why cant he go to the street of London and pick a school boy and turn him to a great player? They called him Professor, i wonder what school he got that from anyway.
All u Arsenal wotever should get a grip of what the time is and move on from that fateful day in question. Let the FA deal with the Adebayor issue. U guys were thrashed and beaten woefully. Accept the defeat in good faith and bear in mind that in football, @#$% happens.
Its a pity that even Arsen Wenger, who should know better has failed shot in his assessment of what had transpired that fateful day however, Adebayor's destiny is not in AW hands but GOD. U bought him for what, he did not deliver for Arsenal, u sold him for quite a handsome profit, he is enjoying his game and delivering now and u have the nerve to chat rubbish...Has he not made good profit for Arsenal??? Shudnt Arsenal be grateful for a name brand like Adebayor, in this meltdown... Go get started with other things you do best Wenger....
Thought Moanrhinos' sneering snarling Chelsea was the pits,
but Wengers' current crop of cheats liars & losers looks like becoming even UGLIER
Wenger is quite mad (loco) : )
Wenger is twisting the truth. If a player does not perform he usually pushes him aside. That means that Abebayor forced his way through the ranks rather than being given a chance and patience to perform. Arsenal gained a lot from him (except last season) so it is a two-way thing. Abebayor can say ''Arsenal fans will look back and realise what I gave them and only them they might have regretted treating me the way they did''. And why does Wenger think Arsenal is great? They haven't won a thing for years, so what will Abebayor regret really? not winning anything? Well he will keep exactly doing that in ManCity, no worries.
Adebayor played for Arsenal for 3.5 years and all of a sudden Arsenal made him what he is. Yes, he should be grateful for the opportunity to be in a bigger shopping window because even though Monaco are not a obscure team when he was bought - they had reached the CL semis... However, Wenger like to go for players that are disaffected with their club (when he is not going for the young ones), so he should have known to some extent what he was taking on.
Ade was on the sulk towards the end of his time at Monaco and when he joined Arsenal he was instrumental in the dismissal of his nation team coach - he is big headed and egoistic but strikers can be like that. Henry became like that at the end of his time at Arsenal - he is just more humble these days because he knows there are many better players than him at Barca.
Wenger is so duplicitous, it hurts! He normally does not say things except to gain advantage - he is not as objective as he sounded in this articla.
adebayor is in love with his own ego'and his wallet..arsenal should have let him rot in the reserves..he deserves all he gets when he gos to the emirates'if he has the guts
from a chelsea fan...
Whinger is so full of @#$%. Instead laying the matter to rest, he rubs it in. Your the reason he left Mr Whinger because he was becomming a man and we all know you like em young lol. You'd rather keep Bendtner( worth nothing) and throw away your best striker just because the fans say so. He had one bad season and the ar5eh0l fans are on his back(who's scoring your goals now Mr Whinger). So Mr Whinger, you can stick your comments back up where they came from because its as soft as your little boys.
For Once agreee with the french man
C Bien Mr wenger
The writer of this story is the second writer to refer to Adebayor been "plucked from relative obscurity at Monaco", so Monaco is not big enough as a club in europe? I believe writer on pages like this should be objective in their analysis. Ade should be credited on his merit, if he is not good enough Wenger will not buy him. For you now to refer to him from obscurity is nothing but hypocrite.
Wait till he comes to Abu Dhabi for training in January. We will be good "hosts" to him :).
Well said Mr Wenger...
