Crouch shows Capello what he offers England

Peter Crouch is hoping he has given Fabio Capello a selection headache after continuing his prolific goalscoring run for England.

The Tottenham striker netted twice in the 3-0 win over Belarus in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley. Crouch appears to be well down Capello's list of favoured strikers and had not started any of the previous four internationals.

But the absence of Wayne Rooney and Emile Heskey presented Crouch with another opportunity, and he took his goal tally to 16 in 17 starts for his country.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was also on target as England finished their qualifying campaign with nine wins out of 10, six points clear of second-placed Ukraine.

Crouch said: "It was very enjoyable. It is good to finish the qualifying campaign on a winning note at Wembley and take that into the World Cup. For me personally I was pleased to get a couple of goals.

"Have I given the manager a bit of food for thought? Yes. All I can do when given an opportunity is to try to take it and the goals help and hopefully my performance has given him something to think about. But we have got some fantastic competition for places, certainly in the striking area, and all I can do is to score goals and hopefully get a chance."

  1. yeah i am not a fan of crouch either as his style is a little hard to digest but in the end he does put the goals in the net at an exceptional rate and could cause alot of trouble for the smaller teams in the world cup. give him a ticket what more do you want from a striker. he scores and sets up play nicely even if it is not always with style.
