Serbia will host it's first professional tennis tournament after Novak Djokovic's (pictured) family bought the rights to the Dutch Open.
The ATP is reported to be still working out the dates and prize money for the tournament before making an official announcement.
"The final approval is still subject to a few details that are being finalised between now and the end of 2008," an ATP official said.
"It's been approved in principle and we need to sort out a few details and then we will announce its spot in the calendar and the prize money and so on."
Serbian media has reported the new event, to be held in Belgrade, will be staged in May with a purse of $326,000 (£220,377).
Serbian players have made huge strides in recent years with Jelena Jankovic now the world number one while French Open champion Ana Ivanovic also reaching the pinnacle of women's tennis this season.
Australian Open champion and world number three Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of the Masters Cup in Shanghai where he is chasing his fourth title of the year.

Well said Sanchez
Loving or hating Novak or his family, but one must be admitted - this is one of many good things he’s been doing for his home country.
Maybe the best.. so far
Great. I hope it will be sceheduled close to Croatia open ATP in Umag so we could join both events in 14 day tennis holidays :)
dobro izvini. mislim na to sto nemozez 10 minuta da setas na knez mihajlo da neki od njih netrazi 20 dinara.
ATP tournament next year, WTA soon, that is fantastic.
Thank you guys you are great. All the best!!!
Finally the world gets another chance to see how beautiful Serbia is. Ako bi samo negde sakrili one cigane koje zive ispod mosta.
B R A V O!
What a nice photo, I am proud, for NOLE, ANA, JECA, ZIKI, TIPSA, even DENY as HE is also "NASE GORE LIST"( borned in Belgrade ) and for all the children in Serbia who will seek to be like our GREAT tennis players. BRAVO !!!!!!
now is Serbian Open for real, because lots of tournaments in past few years could be called "Serbian Open", if u look the results of Serbian players (Djokovic, Zimonjic, Jankovic, Ivanovic...)!
I am glad my country got this event! This tournament is well-deserving, because we have top class tennis players! I know people keep pointing out that our country is small and producing such quality players was a miracle. This is true, but it also a fact that we have always had excellent sportsmen in all sports, but team sports were more prominent. Tennis is the most popular sport in our country right now, and what Jelena, Ana, Novak and Nenad did and have done so far is amazing!!! I am very proud that despite their success they still think about their country :)
Go Serbia go world go sport!
HURRAH to all of You , who made coments, URA za ZIKIJA NOLETA TIPSU JECU ANU and all the children in Serbia , I as an older person and big tennis fan am PROUD.
We need WTA tournament even more... i hope that will happen soon. Juhuuuuuu
Can't wait!!
Belgrade and Serbia deserves the ATP (and WTA) tournament, due to Novak, world number two, and Janko, and Nenad (and Jelena, world number one, and Ana).
Hurrah! I hope Yahoo! Eurosport open a bureau and an online message board in Belgrade.
These boards will be a happier place - about time too.
Well done Novak, hope JJ and Ana will join forces to get a WTA tournament there as well.
