Canada's Lyndon Rush claimed his first-ever World Cup bobsleigh medal as he secured his team four-man gold in Utah.

Rush and team-mates Chris Le Bihan, Dan Humphries, and Lascelles Brown were sixth after the first run at Park City, venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

But they produced a much-improved second run while others conspired to throw away their chance of victory as high winds made life difficult.

It was just rewards for Rush, who along with Brown and Le Bihan put up his own money to buy a new sled for this Olympic season.

First run leader, American Todd Hays, injured his hamstring at the start and dropped to sixth.

Latvia's Janis Minins finished just two hundredths behind Rush to claim silver while Russia's world junior champion Dmitry Abramovitch completed the podium.

Great Britain's John Jackson alongside Henry Nwume, Ryan Freckleton and James Devlin only just qualified for the second run and finished a distant 18th eight tenths of a second off the winning pace.

Meanwhile, Germany's Andre Lange considered by many as his sport's top driver will not compete in Lake Placid next week but will head home to Europe for treatment on his groin injury.
