Jones confident over Chopra injury

Mon 15 Dec, 05:30 PM

Cardiff manager Dave Jones has moved to allay concerns on-loan striker Michael Chopra may have played his last game for the club. The Sunderland marksman had to be replaced after just 35 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 win at Ipswich having taken a blow to a foot.

There were fears he may be sidelined for the rest of his loan deal, which runs out on December 31, but Jones feels it will not be a serious injury.

"Chops went to block a clearance and the top of his foot caught the underside of an Ipswich player's boot," said Jones in the South Wales Echo. "He had ice treatment after the game and it looks more of a soft tissue injury rather than anything serious.

"It cramped up on him a little and I felt it was better to get Eddie Johnson out there than have Michael limping about."

Boss Jones has made no secret of his desire to extend Chopra's stay at Ninian Park when parent club Sunderland appoint a new manager following Roy Keane's departure earlier this month.

  1. He cetainly adds to the options in attacking form for the club when fit and available. He was probab;y one of RK's better early buys, and there probably weren't all that many of those! He belongs in red & white!
