Tour de France - CAS delays Contador decision

Mon, 16 Jan 15:53:00 2012

The Court of Arbitration for Sport will not give a verdict in Alberto Contador's doping case before early next month because of allegations of bias in the arbitration panel, sport's highest court said on Monday.

"This regrettable incident has slightly delayed the work of the Panel and the publication of the final decision should now take place during the week of 31 January 2012," CAS said in a statement.

Contador tested positive for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol during the 2010 Tour de France and was cleared by the Spanish federation, only for the International Cycling Union and the World Anti-Doping Agency to appeal the decision to CAS.

  1. Been a while since I wanted to post here (too busy riding), but two points; 1. This is being dragged out due to sheer incompetence OR they want it to go away. 2. This is about AC not LA; shut the f up, he retired, his balls grew back, had more kids, old news.......

This needs resolution for the sake of cycling and any future of the uci.

  3. Which was more than T-mobiles contract with the University of Freiburg? (Believe that is the one mentioned in all the reports from a few years ago).

  4. @Maxx92 Doping culture made a level playing field?? Armstrong had an exclusive contract with Michele Ferrari don't forget!!

  5. this has Dragged on for so long now i am getting to the point when i don't care anymore. this has been a sad episode for a sport determind to wipe out drug use. i hope the book now get thrown at Conador!

  6. PATHETIC - This is only dragging out so long because of who is involved, Had this been a domestic from Cofidis this would have been knocked out in 2 months.

POWERS THAT BE IN CYCLING & CAS ARE AN SBSOLUTE DISGRACE

  9. BTW, Anyone who thinks Lance's TdF's would be in any way tainted because he may have doped is a fool who doesn't understand the reality of what has been paraded in front of us for the past 10 years. A doping culture existed. As the cases of Kelme and T-mobile have shown, they involved teams' managements. Statistics have proven that recent races are less influenced (not saying clean) by doping. UCI should be applauded for that effort. But the results of Museuw, Zabel, Riis, .... Armstrong were fairly achieved against level playing fields. In my mind, LA is a 7 time winner, because of training innovations, meticulous preparation, talent, and incredible drive. Or do you think Rumsas should have been given the TdF where he finished 3rd behind Lance?

  10. Can't believe I gave Lua a thumbs up! But he's right. A unique test that could have been applied to the top 20 riders in the race (ex-dopers and suspected dopers in the lot of them) only applied to one rider? Why? Had 19 riders tested clean and one tested positive, it would have been a huge boost to the case. But this was a targeted test and the UCI did not want to catch riders doping, they wanted to catch Contador. I am NOT saying Contador is innocent. I AM saying that this test was aimed at finding him guilty. When a doping test is not objective, it is not valid. The possibility that the results were fixed in a test that WANTS to conclude the rider is guilty are far too great. That's why the lab is not supposed to know who is getting tested in the first place. The UCI has damaged this sport by seeking to scapegoat one rider when they could have validated the entire top 20 of the Tour de France.

    From Maxx92, on Tue 17 Jan 23:42
  11. Leopard Trek's owner claimed bias, because one of the Judges is israeli and the team had their training camp in Israel. You can't make this stuff up. It's classic. I honestly don't care if he's guilty any more. I just want the story to go away and stop driving sponsors away from the sport. Look at the teams that have disappeared and look at the teams that have merged. A solid half dozen teams have disappeared from the sport and I believe it is due to the pointless Contador and Armstrong investigations. We know Armstrong doped. SO DID EVERYONE ELSE HE RODE AGAINST. And the Contador test- had it been done properly- wouldhn't have taken this long to prove. So the UCI's vendetta clouded what COULD HAVE BEEN a solid doping case. Right now it is just negative press in a sport that uses positive press to keep teams funded. It has to stop.

The guy got caught, just cause he is a so called "star" doesnt mean he should be let off! really bored of this story now, especially as we all know he'll be let off anyway. but at least contadope will now forever have the "did he didn't he" question following him around. ha ha LOL
"LANCE WAS ALWAYS CLEAN ! " que the thumbs down :oD

  14. 16th century witch hunts were based on more firm evidence than this sham. Call it a day for gods sake.

  15. Unfortunately the relevant sports bodies in this case have shown to the world in general just how inept they are. It now confirms the whole structure of sports anti doping control, and subsequent arbitration etc needs radical reform to prevent any future, similar occurence. This particular "sham" continues to damage the image of our sport at a time when there is a concerted effort to clean it all up. Such radical reform, in my view, should start at the UCI.

This case has gone on for too long and for me has certainly ruined cycling for the year 2011. The rules for the future will have to be changed.
