Lateef Elford-Alliyu is poised to make his second Tranmere debut when Rochdale visit Prenton Park.
The 19-year-old completed a one-month loan move from West Brom on Monday and will be hoping to add to the five goals he scored in 17 appearances during a spell with Rovers last season.
Elford-Alliyu provides a welcome boost in attack for boss Les Parry, as Andy Robinson (knee) and Enoch Showunmi (leg) remain on the sidelines.
Joss Labadie could be in line to start in midfield after shaking off a foot problem to make the substitutes' bench for the 2-1 weekend defeat at Yeovil.
Rovers have only won once in their past 10 npower League One games, and midfielder Robbie Weir has urged his team-mates to chalk up a victory in order to avoid being sucked into the relegation battle that Rochdale are currently mired in.
"We've got a game in hand and we must win that game," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "If we don't, we are going to get sucked back down the league and it's something we don't want."
