Manager Nigel Pearson insists Leicester are unlikely to make an improved offer for Doncaster striker Billy Sharp.
The two clubs agreed a fee for the player but Rovers boss Dean Saunders indicated over the weekend that Sharp does not want a move to the King Power Stadium.
"We have made the best offer we can make. The door is not shut but you can only go so far," said Pearson.
"As a club we have probably been guilty of going overboard in terms of spending on certain players so far. As far as I am concerned, it is about building a team. It is not collecting players. I don't intend to do that.
"We have done quite a bit of trimming down already in terms of dispensing with players. Now it is time to add to what we have got and complement it, but also we have to get more out of what we have already got here."
