Chairboys secure valuable victory

Sat 16 Feb, 07:30 PM

David McCracken netted his first goal for Wycombe to secure a 1-0 home win over fellow League Two play-off hopefuls Rotherham on Saturday.Paul Lambert's men failed to pick up vital points against Mansfield and Bury but put their promotion hopes back on track thanks to McCracken's second-half header.

The 26-year-old - who joined Wycombe after nine seasons with Dundee United in the summer - lashed home the only goal after the restart to extend Rotherham's winless misery to five.

Argentine midfielder Sergio Torres took control of the game early on but failed to fire the Chairboys in front, lashing over in-form striker Scott McGleish's cross after eight minutes.

However, Rotherham should have taken a shock lead on the stroke of half-time but Danny Harrison's powerful volley was blocked by Johnson at the last minute.

It was Wycombe who grabbed all the points five minutes after the interval when McCracken headed Russell Martin's corner powerfully past former Doncaster goalkeeper Warrington.
