Late strike secures points for Dale

Sat 16 Feb, 08:00 PM

Adam Le Fondre fired in a late winner as Rochdale ended their three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory at Bradford on Saturday. The visitors went ahead after 11 minutes when City defender Matt Clarke tried to intercept a throughball and watched in horror as the loose ball rolled past his wrong-footed goalkeeper Scott Loach.

City survived several scares and in the dying seconds of the half leading scorer Peter Thorne levelled with a cool finish after Eddie Johnson's shot was deflected into his path.

Loach pulled off a stunning save to keep out a near-post shot from the impressive Rene Howe at the start of the second period and Thorne went close with two long-range strikes.

Clarke made up for his error with a crucial block to deny ex-Bradford player Ben Muirhead but as the game entered four minutes of injury time, Le Fondre unleashed a curling shot to snatch the win.
