Sturridge eager for youth cup role

Sat 16 Feb, 01:30 PM

Manchester City striker Danny Sturridge is keen to score the goals to help bring the FA Youth Cup to Eastlands. The 18-year-old, who has scored for the first team against Derby and Sheffield United, was drafted back into the youth side this week and scored twice in the 4-2 win over Bristol City.

City, who reached the final of the competition in 2006 but lost 3-2 to Liverpool on aggregate, now face a quarter-final tie with Plymouth.

And although Sturridge, who scored two goals in the final two years ago, is only an occasional player for the youth side he is still keen to face Plymouth.

He said: "Of course I want to be involved. I've played in the last two rounds, so hopefully I can in the next one and, being optimistic, if we get through then it's the semis and who knows?"
