Schalke missed the chance to climb to second in the Bundesliga after in-form Wolfsburg came from behind to win 2-1 at the Veltins-Arena.
Substitute Vicente Sanchez scored for the hosts with his first touch after 64 minutes, netting after Gerald Asamoah's shot was parried into his path by unfortunate Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio.
Grafite levelled the scores 10 minutes later, though, as he made the most of a slip from Rafinha's to fire low past Manuel Neuer from 12 yards, continuing Wolfsburg's trend for scoring in every Bundesliga game this campaign.
And The Brazilian then powerfully converted a penalty with six minutes remaining for his fourth goal in three games, giving Wolfsburg their fourth straight win which takes them to seventh in the table.
