League One - Slade leaves Yeovil

Eurosport - Mon, 16 Feb 15:54:00 2009

Manager Russell Slade has left Yeovil Town after two-and-a-half years at the club.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 League One Yeovil Slade - 0

Assistant boss Steve Thompson will be in charge for the trip to Bristol Rovers on Tuesday February 17.

It is not known why Slade departed although the news comes as a surprise after mid-table Yeovil won their fourth league match in a row, a shock 3-1 victory at Peterborough.

The club only said that they had parted company with Slade, 48, and that they had no further comment to make.

Slade previously managed Grimsby Town and last season led the Glovers to the League One play-off final and was awarded manager of the year.

Yeovill had a poor start to the 2008-09 season but recent form put them in with an outside chance to make the play-offs again.

  1. wanted him out months ago he has taken the club backwards and now its rumoured he was dipping his hand in the till to cover his betting debts (allagedly) we have gone so far backwards under him lets face it play-off final was a total fluke and then he re-builds a squad with loanees i think the directors need to stand up and tell us where all the money from the sales of davies and cohen to forest went and also the money from the play-off final cos as far as i can see we aint spent very much of it and have been getting by with loan players who are only here for the money

  3. Russell Slade has done a brilliant job at Yeovil working under extreme pressure with a limited budget, and under a board who are ignorant of what is happening in front of their noses. This decision is clearly not football based as Slade had the full support of the vast majority of fans, which the board, and particularly Martin Starnes does not enjoy. He shoule be the one to go not a manager who has been fantastic for our small town club. I wish him every success wherever he goes and as for renewing our 3 season tickets next season - I dont't think so!
