Hornets launch Doyley appeal

Watford have appealed against Lloyd Doyley's injury-time dismissal in Tuesday night's 3-2 victory over Leicester.

The left-back was mistakenly shown red in the second minute of added time at Vicarage Road when in fact it was centre-back Adrian Mariappa who was adjudged to have brought down Jermaine Beckford right on the edge of the penalty area.

The red card also appeared to be brandished by referee David Webb for denying a goalscoring opportunity, although three Hornets defenders surrounded Beckford when he went down.

A hearing into the appeal is expected to take place over the next 24 hours, with a verdict made ahead of Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace.
