Hornets win Doyley appeal

Watford have won their appeal against Lloyd Doyley's red card in Tuesday's victory over Leicester.

Doyley was given his marching orders late on in the 3-2 win at Vicarage Road for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity after an adjudged foul on Jermaine Beckford on the edge of the penalty area.

Not only were there a total of three Hornets defenders surrounding Beckford when he went down, referee David Webb wrongly identified Doyley as the culprit when it was in fact defensive partner Adrian Mariappa who committed the foul.

However, rather than appeal on the grounds of mistaken identity, Watford lodged their appeal with the Football Association against the merits of the red card in the first place and have seen their case upheld.

Neither Doyley or Mariappa will now be suspended for Saturday's Championship trip to Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere, Watford goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin has completed a one-month loan move to League Two promotion chasers Crawley. The 24-year-old last month returned from a seven-week spell with League One side Yeovil.
