Stephen McManus has revealed conversations with Derek McInnes proved crucial in his decision to join Bristol City on loan from Middlesbrough.

The centre-back made his debut for the Robins in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Tuesday night after finalising his long-protracted move from Boro just hours before kick-off.

And the 29-year-old stressed Robins manager McInnes played a pivotal role in convincing him to agree to a deal at Ashton Gate.

He told the club's official website: "The manager's been very good and I've spoken to him at length. That was probably the main reason I came here, I had a few other options as well.

"It's been dragging on for a few weeks, but there was finally an agreement struck between the two clubs which suited everyone.

"It's good getting things sorted and now I'm finally here. I want to bring as much as I can to the team and to keep us up. I'll give my all like I always do and hopefully I'll enjoy it here and the club will benefit."
