Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander insisted Francis Green "should be playing at a far higher level" after his stunning winner sank Shrewsbury.New Shrews manager Paul Simpson had been on the verge of ending a nine-game winless streak when Dave Hibbert, a player he discarded when he was boss at Preston, got on the end of Marc Pugh's throughball to deliver a clinical finish.
Alexander had put Green on the wing and reaped the rewards as he followed up Jamie Tolley's equaliser to secure the points late on with a 25-yard bullet.
The recently-appointed Alexander said: "I had Francis Green as a teenager from Ilkeston Town and sold him for £70,000 to Peterborough.
"He's never really fulfilled his potential in the game and should be playing at a far higher level.
"But he's scored two fabulous goals for me now even though he didn't want to play in a wide position. Then again Franny never wants to play in any position you put him."
