The man allegedly responsible for hitting Athletic Bilbao's Armando Ribeiro with a bottle on Saturday is being held in prison.Armando needed stitches to a face wound after being struck just below his right eye during the second half of the match at Real Betis' Manuel Ruiz de Lopera stadium, which was subsequently abandoned by referee Carlos Clos Gomez.
A man was immediately taken into custody by the authorities after being identified by nearby Betis fans and, after spending Saturday night at a police station, on Sunday appeared before a judge and was given a 3,000 euros bail.
However, according to media reports citing judicial sources, the 40-year-old man has not paid the bail and has been detained.
Saturday's episode was the second time in just over a year that such an incident has taken place at Betis' home ground.
Last February, Sevilla coach Juande Ramos was knocked unconscious by a bottle thrown from the stands during a Copa del Rey quarter-final second-leg match against Betis, resulting in that game being abandoned as well.
The man responsible for throwing the object on that occasion was last month given a fine totalling 4,680 euros, ordered to pay Ramos 360 euros in compensation and banned from all public sporting events for two years.
Betis were handed a three-match stadium ban for that incident in 2007, while the game itself was played again starting from the 57th minute - the time it was abandoned - at the neutral venue of Getafe's Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
