Wycombe boss Paul Lambert admits he had a "private" word with defender Russell Martin after his own goal resulted in a 1-0 defeat at Hereford. With 18 minutes remaining Martin looked to have covered a long free-kick from Clint Easton when he rose high on the six-yard line but his clearance crept into the inside of the post with goalkeeper Frank Fielding stranded on the other post.
"You can't legislate for an own goal but I thought he should have done better with the header," said a disappointed Lambert.
"I have spoken to him but what I said to him is private."
The defeat left Wycombe 10 points behind Hereford in the third automatic promotion place, but Lambert is not giving up on a place in the top three.
"Until it is mathematically impossible we will continue to set our sights there," he added.
