PSV's lead cut after Roda draw

Sun 16 Mar, 05:00 PM

PSV saw their lead at the top of the Eredivisie cut to four points after Marcel Meeuwis' last-gasp goal denied them a win against Roda JC.Sef Vergoossen's men appeared to be heading for their ninth away victory of the season thanks to Jefferson Farfan's 67th-minute strike.

But Meeuwis popped up in the dying seconds to snatch a 1-1 draw for Roda and allow second-placed Ajax to narrow the gap at the top after their own emphatic 4-1 victory against Willem II.

The Amsterdam club had found themselves trailing to a Frank Demouge goal after 18 minutes, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar restored parity 11 minutes later before Luis Suarez grabbed the spotlight with a hat-trick to secure the spoils.

Ajax could further reduce the gap to just a point if they can beat PSV when the two teams meet on Wednesday in Eindhoven.

Willem II remain one point off the foot of the table, while Sparta Rotterdam are also struggling at the wrong end after a 4-2 defeat at NEC Nijmegen.

Three goals in the last eight minutes saw NEC come from 2-1 down to snatch the win with substitute Patrick Pothuizen (two) and Youssef El Akchaoui finding the target.

A Marvin Emnes double earlier in the match, which sandwiched Kevin Bobson's strike, had put Sparta in the driving seat until the late collapse.

In Sunday's other match, AZ Alkmaar grabbed a 2-2 draw at FC Utrecht thanks to Mounir El Hamdaoui's late effort.

The visitors had broken the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Demy De Zeeuw but goals from Cedric Van der Gun and Kevin Vandenbergh gave Utrecht the edge until El Hamdaoui scored in injury time.
