Ritchie loses his cool after defeat

Sun 16 Mar, 05:30 PM

Huddersfield manager Andy Ritchie was "absolutely livid" after his side suffered a last-minute 2-1 defeat to play-off chasing Southend. The hosts had got themselves level courtesy of veteran forward Andy Booth with 17 minutes to go but Alan McCormack's stoppage-time winner inflicted a fifth defeat in six league matches on Huddersfield, to all but end their play-off hopes.

He said: "I am absolutely livid. We have fought so hard to get back into the game in the second half.

"We made them look pretty ordinary and had a lot of the play. We got ourselves back into the game and then we let them score a cheap goal at the end. It's not good enough.

"We wanted to get the winner, but we allowed them too much space. I don't lose my cool too often, but I lost it in there. It's beyond me how they cannot see the game out for another two minutes. It's criminal."

Ritchie added: "We know that's probably the play-offs out of the window, but we will try and win as many games as we can between now and the end of the season."
