New Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson conceded the result was the only thing that mattered despite a fine performance against Macclesfield.Simpson had been on the verge of ending a nine-game winless streak when Dave Hibbert, a player he discarded when he was boss at Preston, got on the end of Marc Pugh's throughball to deliver a clinical finish.
Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander put Francis Green on the wing and reaped the rewards as he followed up Jamie Tolley's equaliser to secure the points late on with a 25-yard bullet.
Simpson said: "We played well and deserved to be in the lead, but we got caught by two fantastic goals.
"Perhaps we could have done more to stop Jamie Tolley getting his shot in, but Francis Green's strike was just superb.
"There are a lot of positives, but in the end it's the result that counts and we need to start winning games."
