Scotland boss George Burley has revealed he could leave David Weir out of his squad for the friendly against Croatia on March 26.
But Burley, who took up the national team job in January following Alex McLeish's move to Birmingham, insists Weir can still have a future with Scotland.
Hearts captain Christophe Berra is a contender to take Weir's place for the Hampden clash against Slaven Bilic's side.
Rangers defender Weir, who will turn 38 in May, has stated that his future in international football will be determined by the new Scotland boss rather than through voluntary retirement.
He has been almost ever-present during Rangers' campaign this season, and may be glad for the chance of a rest.
Burley said: "I will look at leaving David out this time and I will speak to him about it, but even if he's not involved it doesn't mean he will be left out in the future. He is a very experienced player."
The former Hearts boss will name his first match squad at Hampden tomorrow, and 23-year-old Jambos centre-back Berra is in the frame.
"I have seen Christophe twice recently and he is pushing for a place," Burley confirmed.
Cardiff defender Kevin McNaughton could also be handed a call-up after helping the Bluebirds reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
