Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan would be open to returning to English football amid reports Aston Villa and Tottenham want to sign him.

The Uruguayan hitman played for Manchester United for two-and-half seasons after joining in January 2002 from Independiente.

However, he struggled for goals and form in the Premier League, netting just 10 goals from 23 starts and 40 substitute appearances.

His form in Spain has been sensational with a host of goals for Villarreal before last summer's switch to the Vicente Calderon.

Forlan believes he did not get a fair crack of the whip in England and would been keen to return if the right offer was on the table.

"I didn't get much of a chance in England, but if there is a chance to come back and the offer is really good, I'd think about it," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"I enjoyed living and playing in England, so it's still an option."
