No excuses from Strauss after loss

England captain Andrew Strauss made no excuses after his side slumped to yet another stunning batting collapse in a humiliating six-wicket defeat to the West Indies the Twenty20 international in Trinidad.

Dismissed for a lowly 99 during last October's Stanford match in Antigua and for 51 to lose the first Test in Jamaica, England completed their hat-trick of batting collapses by being dismissed for just 121 in 19.1 overs at the Queen's Park Oval.

Strauss said: "Pretty obviously (the main problems lay) with the bat - you don't win too many Twenty20s having scored 120."

He added on Sky Sports 2: "We lost wickets too regularly and we weren't smart enough with our batting to be honest. We weren't ever able to put pressure on the West Indies with the ball. It's just disappointing the way we batted.

"If we had got to 150 that would have been a decent score. It definitely wasn't an easy wicket to play your shots on but if we had just been a bit smarter and kept a few more wickets in hand then we probably would have got closer to that score."

  1. England should follow the example of good ODI/20-20­ teams. They need clean big hitters at the start of the­ innings, when fielding restrictions are in place. Many­ ODIs now end up requiring a 20-20 approach due to­ Duckworth-Lewis (reduced overs).
