Alan Buckley has urged Grimsby fans to be more realistic after their frustrations were heard during the Mariners' fifth straight defeat. The Mariners, beaten in the recent Johnstone's Paint Trophy final by MK Dons, went down 1-0 at home to Wycombe, but Buckley defended his players afterwards.
He said: "There's no denying we are having a flat spell at the moment and of course I'm disappointed with the result.
"People are obviously frustrated in the stands and I can understand that, but when you look at the substitutes we made, bringing on young lads, and compare it with the Wycombe bench it shows there needs to be a reality check.
"We know we have to work with what we have and do have limited resources, but that has always been the case at Grimsby.
"It's my job to get the best out of what we've got, and considering we were missing three or four experienced players through injury we did okay."
