Lambert hails Chairboys display

Wed 16 Apr, 02:30 PM

Wycombe manager Paul Lambert praised his promotion-chasing side after they consolidated seventh spot in League Two with a 1-0 win at Grimsby. After Saturday's draw against league leaders MK Dons, Lambert's side made the long trip north looking to extend their advantage over eighth-placed Chesterfield.

And a 19th-minute strike by Sergio Torres was enough to clinch all three points.

Lambert said: "After Saturday's exertions it was a good away win for us. It was a totally different game in different surroundings but I thought the lads were absolutely brilliant.

"We've had tough games against Peterborough and MK Dons so to go again in this one was terrific.

"We knew what we had to do to get a bigger margin between ourselves and Chesterfield and I think this win is a big step towards consolidating our position."
