Former England winger Rory Underwood has given his approval to the appointment of Martin Johnson as team manager.
The 2003 World Cup-winning captain will take charge from July 1 this year, having secured a deal until December 31, 2011.
The Rugby Football Union management board unanimously approved Johnson's appointment following an meeting at Twickenham on Wednesday.
And Underwood, England's record tryscorer with 49 from 85 caps, told Sky Sports: "He loves the sport.
"The appointment wasn't a surprise. He's very much into detail and will earn the respect of all the players and Premier Rugby management.
"He's very much got his own ideas on how things should be played and organised.
"Instead of being charge of a bunch of players, he will now have to think about budgets and will be responsible for running it as a business - but he's got Rob (Andrew) to help him."
Underwood, who played alongside Johnson for Leicester, England and the Lions, added: "He's not one for making huge long speeches but he gives out very clear messages.
"He was not just a captain who worries about what the forwards do. He will worry about the whole game and is knowledgeable about the game."
