Serie A - Luis Figo, who is leaving Internazionale to join Al-Ittihad in the summer, has revealed he was keen for a crack at playing in MLS.
The Portuguese midfielder is heading for Saudi Arabia at the end of the season even though Internazionale president Massimo Moratti offered him a new contract.
"I have not decided to leave Inter," he declared. "I decided to leave top football.
"If I would have chosen to continue playing at a high level, I would not have done it with Sporting Lisbon. My last jersey in football that counts must be Inter's shirt."
Figo revealed the lure of America was a tempting one to consider.
"I took the decision when I felt aware of not being happy with the way things were going," he continued.
"Why Al-Ittihad? I would have liked the USA also but the Al-Ittihad offer, for 18 months, was the only one that will also allow me to quit after only six months.
"I think this is the right moment to leave and I'll try and win something, the most possible, with Inter."
