Colchester close in on Lockwood

Colchester are stepping up their plans for their return to League One by agreeing a fee with Nottingham Forest for defender Matt Lockwood.The 31-year-old full-back, who joined Forest last summer after nine years with Leyton Orient, is now in talks with the Us over a potential switch to the Essex club.

"We have had a bid accepted for Matt by Nottingham Forest and we are currently in talks with the player about a move to Colchester United," chairman Robbie Cowling told the Us' official website.

Lockwood made just 13 appearances for Colin Calderwood's promoted side this season.
