Fri 16 May, 12:15 PM

Boss Mark Stimson has confirmed Gillingham are in talks with Stevenage keeper Alan Julian over a move and admitted Danny Cullip is to leave.Julian, 25, who started his career at Brentford, is available on a free transfer and Stimson is confident of making him his first signing of the summer.

"We've had the opportunity to talk with Alan and bring him down to the club so that we can show him the ground," said Stimson.

"There are a couple of other League clubs interested and he's now going to go away and have a think about what we've offered. I'm quietly confident that we will be able to add him to our squad and with Derek Stillie retiring, another goalkeeper would be good for competition."

Defender Cullip, meanwhile, will leave the Gills after talks to extend his stay beyond the end of the season ended.

Stimson added: "Danny and I spoke 10 weeks ago and agreed a deal but when we sat down at the end of the season, he wanted something else in the deal regarding length of contract. We put something in writing but unfortunately Danny has turned it down."
