Fri 16 May, 03:09 PM

This season's 888.com World Championship finalist Ali Carter has booked his place in the semi-finals of the Huang Mountain Cup in Herfei, China.

The Tiptree cueman sparkled in the Far East to take a step closer to winning this year's three-day competition.

But while Carter, Hong Kong potter Marco Fu and Chinese prodigy Ding Junhui all won their quarter-final matches, seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry crashed to a surprise defeat.

Hong Kong's Fu, this season's Aberdeen Grand Prix champion, was a comfortable 4-1 winner over Chinese cueman Liang Wenbo.

Local favourite Ding eased to a 4-1 victory over Chinese compatriot Liu Chuang, who made his debut at the Crucible last month.

And there was also success for this season's Crucible finalist Carter as he impressed with a 4-2 win over Chinese potter Cao Hei Sheng.

However, Crucible legend Hendry was whitewashed 4-0 by promising Chinese play Jin Long.

Saturday will see both semi-final matches played, with the showcase final scheduled for Sunday.
