Relegated Colchester have agreed a fee with Nottingham Forest for defender Matt Lockwood.
The 31-year-old full-back, who joined Forest last summer after nine years with Leyton Orient, is now in talks with the Us over a potential switch to the Essex club.
"We have had a bid accepted for Matt by Nottingham Forest and we are currently in talks with the player about a move to Colchester United," chairman Robbie Cowling told the club's official website.
Lockwood made just 13 appearances for Colin Calderwood's promoted side this season.
Colchester impressed on their debut season in the second tier of English football two years ago with a 10th-placed finish.
However, having shelled out for veteran striker Teddy Sheringham in the summer, they could not replicate that form and ended bottom, 15 points from safety.
