Hiddink: I wanted to be alone

Sat 16 May, 12:43 PM

Guus Hiddink made himself "unapproachable" at Chelsea for two days because he was so angry at the "injustice" of their Champions League exit to Barcelona.

The Dutchman was so frustrated by their semi-final knockout staff inside the club were forced to keep their distance from him.

He said: "For two days even normal questions drew a reaction from me after that and that was because I was exhausted. I knew I didn't want anyone coming near me. I was angry because you felt injustice. Everyone felt that, even people recognised it who weren't involved with Chelsea.

"You feel this huge frustration. I was frustrated when we (Holland) didn't get to the World Cup final in 1998 when we lost to Brazil in the penalty shoot-out but that was to a good opponent.

"That was frustration because we were disappointed. I could not be angry with the referee or the opponents who took the penalties.

"I didn't apologise to people but they kept their distance. It's not a nice quality from myself in these circumstances but they stayed away for two days. I don't have to apologise for not talking to anybody."

  1. so is that terrible game just going to be swept under the carpet? something need to be done as a respons to the refs bad decisions. i cant sit down to watch a game if i know there's a possibility that it could happen again. only the best refs, new technology, or a '3 shout system' to complain against decisions... anything! but to see the wrong team go through is mad (i hate cfc)...

  6. Bleeding mascara, if you are giving Barca advise on how to beat ManU, and you want our players to play like yours.... then why aren't you the ones to go to Rome???... Oh yes, you were cheated...... that's normally what the losers always say!!!

  7. Blame it on the Ref, blame it on Platini, just like in 2005 Chelsea just can not accept the fact that they lost and I willing to place the blame on anyone besides themselves. Take a good look in the mirror and you'll see that your so called tactics in the Nou Camp came back and slapped you in the face. Too bad you missed that 90 minute opportunity because you played a hell of a return leg. Maybe next year....

  8. Gee Mr. Hiddink what a selective memory you have. A nation of Spaniards got the short end of the stick against your South Korea side in the same manner that you suppose Chelsea was shorted against Barcelona. Your reference to Brasil as "...a good opponent." is meant to convey that Barcelona wasn't? You sir have lost the respect of a tremendous amount of people that had always respected your capacity for doing more with less (PSV, S.Korea, Australia, Russia, and yes Chelsea). Your inability to condemn the actions and unsportsmanlike conduct of some of your players is a disgrace as is Chelsea's institutional continued indisposition to instill any sense pride, humility and sportsmanship in the vast majority of their players. But you of all people who have known victory and defeat in a vast array of it's many shapes and sizes fell prey to the pettiness that seems to permeate Chelsea every time they lose a close one. In general a disgraceful showing on the part of the players, managers and directorship.
