McCarthy focused on Accies

Sat 16 May, 09:34 AM

Celtic target James McCarthy has denied claims he is desperate to leave Hamilton and promised to give his all in their fight against relegation.

Hoops manager Gordon Strachan has confirmed he has made an offer to bring the 18-year-old to Parkhead next season. The offer did not meet the Lanarkshire club's valuation and was promptly rejected but it is likely Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell will return with an improved bid.

However, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 midfielder is focused only on keeping Accies in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, and told the Daily Record: "I was upset at reports that suggested I wanted to quit Hamilton. It isn't true."

He added: "I'm happy at the club but I'm also flattered a club such as Celtic have shown an interest in me.

"However, I want Accies fans to know the only thing I'm interested in right now is Hamilton."
