Ipswich have completed the signing of defender Pim Balkestein for an undisclosed fee from Heerenveen.The 21-year-old spent a short period on trial at the club at the end of last season and has signed a two-year contract at Portman Road.

Manager Jim Magilton told the club's official website: "We are delighted to have Pim at this club.

"He wasn't fazed by mixing with the first-team players when he came over for a trial with us.

"He is a confident lad who is aggressive in his play and has a cultured left foot.

"He is 6ft 3in, is an organiser, can pass a ball and is someone who is desperate for an opportunity."
