Former England manager Steve McClaren is to be interviewed for the Blackburn job today, according to reports.
McClaren has been out of work since England's unsuccessful Euro 2008 qualifying campaign came to an end last November.
He has recently expressed his desire to return to the game and had been linked with Dutch club FC Twente.
McClaren has been mentioned among the favourites to take charge at Ewood Park and he admitted last week that he would be interested in the post.
Blackburn have been on the lookout for a new boss since Mark Hughes switched to Premier League rivals Manchester City at the start of the month.
The likes of Sam Allardyce and Paul Ince are in the running but it appears Rovers are keen to speak with McClaren.
Sky Sports News report that McClaren will meet Blackburn bosses on Monday.

I vote that the chairmen of the board at Blackburn appoint someone with style, flair, personality. This leaves only one person capable of fulfilling those credentials - Homer Simpson . . .
Mclaren the under achiever achieved more at Boro than hughes did at Blackburn? Dont let the national team colour your opinion. No English national team manager has done any good since 66 so its a stupid argument to make.
Mclaren won a trophy with Boro as well as a great UEFA cup run to the finals. Dont Blackburn fans want to do that too?
Strange the way opinion can change in a short space of time, us footy fans a fickle!
y the italics?
They must be mad! Ince is clearly the best man available for the job. I can't believe they would go for Mclaren ahead of him!
I thought Rovers to be a progressive club who, under Mark Hughes, played attacking football and was highly rated by other clubs as a team who wouldn't give up.
I am afraid that the apointment McLaren (what has he ever acheived?), and Allardyce (a likeable and no doubt honest individual but not seen as a "high achiever") would not be in Blackburn's longer-term best interests. Neither one would be able to attract the quality of players that Mark Hughes was able to introduce.
I have been a Blackburn Fan for 34 years, and have supported them through good times and bad..We have had some great managers and a couple who were not quite so good, but I have never known such a unanimous attitude that McLaren is not the man for the job...Once again Blackburn are proving that we may be playing Premier League football, but our administration is fourth division...
As another blackburn Fan, i do sympathise with the posted article, however, either of those mangers is better than NO MANAGER! Everybody deserves a chance, and how can we the general public / Fans cast these opionions about people when most of us could not do the job, just because a person is not sucessfull in one job does not mean they are a failure, and would fail again, for all we know the next manager (even if it is Allardyce or Mclaren) could be the one to put Blackburn on the top spot of the table, the place where every fan wishes blackburn rovers to be.
From one Fan to another.
As a Blackburn Fan I would like to appeal to anyone who may be able to arrange a trip up a sky scraper to facilitate my immminent suicide. I figure if I'm going to do it then I'm too classy for razors or prescription drugs so a long fall to quick end is my plan. And it seems inevitable.
Sam Allardyce or Steve McLaren?
Have both hands hacked off or be castrated?
We are not that poor a club, why not try and get a manager that might just attract a few decent players? If our Chairman reads these blogs to make big decisions the name I'm submitting is rock legend and part time Croatian manager Slaven Bilic. Or Katie Price, if it's going to go horribly wrong we might as well all have a good ogle and get some funny chants out of it...
